Stockingfoot Wader

When I started fishing for winter Steelhead a few years ago had nothing. Until then, I was a "good weather" fisherman who did not really know what was cold. Boy I found quickly.

I never forget my first outing. I ended up with an old friend of mine who I had not seen since school primary. Steve is going to teach me all about Steelhead and Salmon Fishing. It was mid-December, 16 1999, I think. We meet at Steve's house around 5 am. All was wearing my jeans, shirt, cap, normal shoes and warm jacket in the car.

Steve just looked at me. "Are you crazy? "he said." You'll freeze. "Well, I said this is all I have." Do not worry, I will not. Let's go "as soon as we reach the river that was just that, freezing. But hey, I'm stoked because I'm going to take me a long over-due Steelhead. I remember looking like I was in numb about the base and noticed it was hot as could be. It was not long to ask "Ok, what is all this and where can I get it." I going to go through that type of day again. By the grace of God, I caught my first Steelhead that day, but not without paying a high price.

On my next trip to I got my computer out with a pair of boots with a waterproof and breathable. The only thing missing was using your head. "I knew I was forgetting something." It was a cold day. It was uncomfortable, but at least not bad as my first outing. He had a cap on average as well be ended.

I tell my friends, there's nothing like the comfort of being warm. When the temperature is in the 30s, with rain, snow and sleet. (Yes, I have had all 3!). You will be glad you have the equipment. Moreover, being hot is given much more than a good time.

Here is my checklist when leaving for a day on the river. "

1. Waders. You can find these everywhere. Like anything else, you get what you pay for. I recommend the brand breathable Simms G3 or G4 to be the top of the line. They do run a little high in price ranges from about $ 350 to $ 699. You can get the Stockingfoots Rivertek for $ 299. Rivertek is almost as low as I would go for the winter. Also can go with the standby time of 3.5 mm neoprene. You can get in a couple of them in the price range of $ 80 to $ 200.

2. Waterproof clothing. Another must have. Waterproof actually come to your own comfort. Personally, I need to feel loose and agile. Therefore, use a narrower, lighter style in Columbia. The end result is dry.

3. Your hat. I like the Henschel. A large hat of skin quality oil that keeps your head dry. A dry head is a hot head. I think these run in the ballpark of $ 50

4. Underwear. There are all sorts of things out there right now. I use anything that is designed to maintain humidity and heat on inches that usually carry some wool, over my boots. This all depends on how warm or cool you are. Some people like I need 3-4 layers, while others only 1 or 2. Check your local REI or sporting goods store for these.

One last tip, get a dry bag. You will not regret having an extra set of clothes for the sake of emergency. You never know when you will slip on a rock, or get drenched plains due to bad weather. Only to put your dry bag in the truck or ship. Dry bags are available through Sporting goods store also. Price depends on size, which costs on average $ 40.
